The 16th Annual Autumn Leaves Beauty Pageants will be held on

Saturday, November 21, 2009 at The Star Theatre in Stuart, Virginia.

Mothers will be required to be on the stage with Baby and Wee Miss/Master contestants. All contestants will appear on stage for 2 rounds in their formal wear.

Finalists will be awarded based on the number of entries in each age division. Each will receive a finalist’s trophy. Winners will receive the equivalent of a $100 savings bond, a crown, embroidered satin sash, banner pin, and trophy. Each participant receives a trophy.

**There will be a $250.00 scholarship (made payable to the school of choice) awarded to the winner of the Miss Division**

Each pageant will last approximately 30 minutes - Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your pageant is scheduled to begin. (Divisions and times are subject to change depending on the number of contestants.)

ENTRY FEE: $40.00 due on or before Thursday, Nov. 12th

NO LATE OR DOOR ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED

Practice will be held for all contestants on Friday, November 13th at the Star Theatre beginning at 6:00 PM

OPTIONAL: Photogenic FREE

One winner per age division will be awarded.

Submit a photo (no larger than 8x10). Frames are not allowed. Photographs are to be turned in during pageant practice. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Also, photos MUST be picked up the day of the pageant.

OPTIONAL: Signature Poster

You will need to have at least 75 family members, friends, businesses, etc. to sign your poster. Each person signing must donate at least $1.00 (or more) to the JEB Stuart Volunteer Rescue Squad. This optional event is open to last year's winners. Contestants may submit a decorated signature poster - a gift will be awarded for "the prettiest poster" as well as for the contestant collecting the most money in each age division. Each contestant participating in the signature poster category will be named as an Autumn Leaves Princess and will receive a crown and sash. There will be one overall winner named - the contestant collecting the most money in the signature poster category for the JEB Stuart Rescue Squad will be crowned the Autumn Leaves Queen. This is the most prestigious award of the entire pageant. The winner will receive a large crown, 5 foot trophy, satin embroidered sash, and banner pin. The winner will be announced at the end of the pageant that they will be participating in.

All posters and money will be collected Friday, November 13th during practice.

To Benefit the Patrick County Christmas Cheer Program. Rain Date –November 21, 2009. Registration Starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department.  Leave At  1:00 pm  - $ 10.00 Entry Fee. There Will Be a 50/50 Drawing, Door Prizes, and Hot Dogs Available to All Riders. Open to All Types of Cars, Trucks, and Motorcycles.

KEEPING A DREAM ALIVE!

The Fellowship Church (across from the fire department in Ararat, VA) will have its annual Pancake Breakfast with Bazaar and Craft Sale on Saturday, November 14 from 7 – 11 a.m. The breakfast is $5.00/adult; $3.00/children 12 & under.  Items for sale include: handmade crafts, baked goods, chow-chow and pepper relish.  All proceeds benefit The Fellowship Church.
The Surry County Genealogical Association will meet, Monday night, 9 November, 2009, at 6:00 PM, in The Research Room at Surry Community College, Dobson, N. C. for a Sharing and Research Meeting. Everyone is asked to bring your genealogy or pictures, old letters, anything you would like to share about your family. The Carlos Surratt Research Room will be open for research also. The Fourth Annual Car Show hosted by the Patrick Henry Community College Student Motorsports Association has been set for Saturday, October 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PHCC Virginia Motorsports Technology Center (Arrington/HT facility) at 67 Motorsports Drive in Martinsville .

All vehicles are welcome, including cars, trucks and motorcycles. Vehicles will be entered into one of several classes with trophies awarded to first place winners.  Registration will be taken from 9 a.m. to  12 noon . The show ends at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 7 will serve as a rain date.

Other activities during the show will include trick or treating for children under the age of 10, with a trophy for the best costume, and a Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.) Society raffle.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase. All proceeds will support the Student Motorsports Association and the M.S. Society.

PUBLIC NOTICE  - YEAR 2009 TAX STATEMENTS MAILED

2009 - Patrick County Tax Statements mailed Wednesday-September 23rd

Each taxpayer should receive a statement for any Personal Property such as cars, trucks, mobile homes, business equipment, machinery and tools, qualified vehicle license fees, etc. plus a Real Estate statement for each tract of land owned.  If you do not receive your tax statement, please contact the Patrick County Treasurer’s Office at 276-694-7257.  Failure to receive a statement does not relieve one from the penalty and interest added after the due date.  Please mail or bring top portion of the statement(s) with you when paying your taxes. 

Tax Due Date:  Monday, December 7, 2009 (Note: December 5th falls on a Saturday)

Penalty of 10% is added on December 8, 2009 . 10% per annum interest begins to accrue on January 2, 2010

Treasurer Office Hours:  Monday-Friday - 8:30-5:00 . Located in the Veterans’ Memorial Building/County Administration Building, Room 221.

Beginner cyclists meet the fourth Saturday of each month at the Fieldale Trail located at 3521 S.
